The way of which our film incorporates generic conventions of our genre "drama" is as follows, within the genre "drama" there are many different sub-genres that come underneath of this. But for our film we decided that this genre would be ideal for our film idea. From this, we looked at other films such as "12 Years a Slave", "My Sisters Keeper" and "The Fault in Our Stars". The reason we decided to look at these is because they have realistic story lines and our film is based on peoples misfortune in their lives and how they're dealing with it. Focusing mainly on two characters (brother and sister) and the impact they are having on other characters lives, as well as there's.

From looking at our film opening and another rivals film opening (My Sisters Keeper), it shows to us that they have portrayed their genre in a different way. They have decided to relate how the film carries on rather than what we have decided to do which is to introduce two of our characters into the film and start to get the beginning of their stories in place this is shown when:
- We have introduced the 'lawyer' into our piece by them starting to walk from the county hall in Chelmsford town centre.
- Our second character is a single parent, throughout the piece we have shown how difficult it starts to get for her.
