Setting-
For the setting of our film opening we used a house and the middle of Chelmsford town. We used the house as the home to the single mum and her children. We used Chelmsford town as well as we would then be able to film near the courts which is where the business woman was working at the time.
This suggests to the audience that the business woman was at work, whilst the mum was at home. Not only did we use these setting to set the scene but we also used them to add to the characterization.
The living room of the house was a bit messy which could then lead the audience to believe that the woman may not be able to keep up with her housework.
Whilst in town we also used boots pharmacy and the public toilets. Boots is where the business woman bought her pregnancy test from and then the public toilets is where she took the test. The fact that she used the public toilets appose to doing the test at home signifies that she was desperate to get the test done.
Props-
In the scenes set at the house, we used a babies bottle(with milk), bread, a tin of beans, plate, newspaper and pen, house phone and multiple toys. The use of a babies bottle suggests that the first protagonist could have a baby or is looking after one. The bread, tin of beans and plate were used to represent the protagonists lunch, beans on toast is quite a standard lunch and therefore this could suggest that the character has a very basic way of living. The newspaper was open on the jobs page, the character was circling different ads, and making phone calls about job vacancies. This signifies that the character is either looking for a new job or does not have a job. In the living room there is multiple toys scattered about, as the toys are everywhere and they scattered in the living room appose to her child's bedroom the audience can get the idea that the protagonist may not have complete control over her child.
In the scenes set in town we used a phone and a pregnancy test. The phone was used twice, once when the protagonist came out of the courts and then again after she came out of the public toilets. The pregnancy test was also used twice, once when it was set in the shop, the protagonist picked it up in the box and then the second time was when the protagonist walked out of the toilet cubical. The protagonist had the pregnancy test in her hand which tells the audience that she had just taken the test.
Lighting-
Throughout the majority of the opening w used naturalistic lighting, There was only daylight in the house and also when we were filming in town. The only time that we had high key lighting was when we were in boots. Despite the fact that it was high key, we used it in a naturalistic was as that is what the lighting in boots is usually like. We used naturalistic lighting because we are creating a drama and therefore we are trying to make it as realistic and relatable as possible.
Costume-
The single mum was wearing a jumper ad jeans, this was to make an informal impression of the character, it shows that she doesn't necessarily have anywhere important to go and that she is just chilling out at home. In contrast with this the business woman is wearing more formal clothes. This adds to the fact that she had just come out of work.
